Azam's one week BCT diary

Old Memories

Wednesday, April 16, 2008
I remembered this incident back when i was in secondary school .I was caught by the hostel warden on Illegal outing. The warden asked me where did i go and why i did it?
so i answered , " i went to dinner because i was hungry . Everybody need to eat , why do you interrogate me just because of i had my dinner"

Soon after i finished my words , the Warden kicked me at my stomach.

So from this incident , you can see that i use the fallacy of two wrong make a right , by making the claim that everybody can eat their dinner why can i?. Eventhought the issue was totally different but i use this fallacy to save myself.

Making Assumption

Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Assumption can easily made unconsciously.I want to share on what did happen to me today. As like any other day I went to bank to make a payment for business purpose.I queue up inline waiting for my turn.I felt very weird today because time seems to pass very slow and my head started to vibrate.

I looked at the counter and i saw the clerk was talking to his mate beside him.In my head i was making an assumption that he is not doing his job but wasting time talking to his friend.Even though i did not have any prove to clarify my statement in my head but i just can kept up with my emotion. When i get near to the counter i found out that they were not having social conversation but they have problem with the internet network. thats why , it took so long for to serve each customer because they have to process the transaction manually.

The moral of the story , peoples have to be careful in making any thought because naturally we are very easy to make assumption without consider with any premisess or evidence.

Conversation with my supplier.

I would like to share what i did today and relate it with what i learned in Critical thinking class. today i had a conversation with my potential supplier .

Me : What is the Minimum order quantity for the Carbon handle bar

Supplier : We can sell you at wholesale price for atleast 10 handle bars.

Me : Do you have warranty for these handle bars?

Supplier : No need for warranty , these handle bars are very high quality they are made from high quality and hande made finishing.

Me : How about your term of payment ?

supplier : We do accept western union and moneygram.

Me : Can i transfer the payment via TT.

supplier : Why want to use TT , Western union is much more better and faster.

Me : how long does it takes to arrive in malaysia.

Supplier : 3 weeks.

Me : Why does it takes so long , what kind of shipping company do you use ?

supplier : I use registered post .

Me : Why you want to charge so much if you only use registered post instead of express service.

Supplier : This is why i charge you so cheap on the shipping cost because the registered post is much more cheaper.

Me : Thanks , i 'll call you next time then.

Supplier : No need for warranty , these handle bars are very high quality they are made from high quality and hande made finishing.

If you take a look carefully on this conservation , the supplier try to use Red herring Fallacy to distract me from the main topic. I asked him about the warranty but he was bubling about something else to make me forget about the warranty issue.

supplier : Why want to use TT , Western union is much more better and faster.

This is another example the supplier tried to use red herring fallacy by giving a mislead premises to distract me from the main issue.

Supplier : This is why i charge you so cheap on the shipping cost because the registered post is much more cheaper.

The supplier is using petitio principii on me . He was repeating the same words in the same order in both premiss and conclusion.

The World According To Google

Monday, April 14, 2008

Since Google founders are my Idols Mr Sergey Brin and Mr Larry Page , i would like to share with all the readers their story and what is actually happening inside the Google itself.Hopefully all these facts will show the creativity both of these excellent young idealist in realizing their ideas

Dynamic

Both of them are very dynamic in generating new idea. They always out of their comfort zone to create and make all their new ideas become alive. They are not just doing it because of money but they do it because want to make this very earth , the place we living it become a better world to each every inhabitant in this planet.

Daring

When we talk about daring , they are among the most daring netpreneur in the world. They started with the search engine which did not have a single revenue model on it.They do it because they want to create a good search engine at that time because they are no reliable search engine at the they started.

If you look how they manage their employees , they apply a totally brand new concept by giving their employees an opportunies to give new ideas and make it alive. They tried everything to make the flow of informations become smoother by introducing so many models such as Adwords , Google Dekstop , Google Earth , Google analytic , Google Check out and many more. The best part most of these programs are free.

I can say they are very daring peoples because they dont even care about money but more to the human value to make other people's life become easier,

Resourceful

Resourceful can conntected directly to both Mr Brin and Mr Page. They try to make Google The most resourceful company in the world. They hire the best brains in the world and giving them freedom to generate ideas.

Hard-working

There is no doubt to say they are very hardworking peoples. They both started the company with zero money in the pocket by using facilities in Stanford University ( The university they were studying at ). They keep on building the project ( Google Search Engine ) until they got funding from credible Venture Capitalists in Silicon Valley few years after they started. They keep on researching new ideas and make it become reality. Now Google has become the largest Search engine company in the world and the internet will not become the same as today without Google.

Independent

They are very indipendent individuals since they are not relying on anybody building their company. They even build servers with their own hand to keep the cost low at they time they started.they started the company in the their dorm room in stanford not like others who has money to start in fancy office building.

What you read ain’t always what’s said!

Sunday, April 13, 2008
You know the Malaysiakini report by Andrew Ong that has it that Tengku Faris had made some rather un-Bangsa Malaysia statements last week?

Well, Lil’ Hummingbird tells me that she heard from the horse’s mouth that the Crown Prince never made those statements.

Apparently, it was written in HRH’s scripted speech by some official, but he re-worked it the night before he was to deliver the keynote address.

I’m also told that whilst he delivered his re-worked speech, the media reps in attendance were given the original text.

So it would seem that the reporters merely extracted from the distributed original text and did not report on what was actually said.

I’ve suggested to Lil’ Hummingbird that she flutter away and hum in the royal ear that royal steps be taken to clear this most unfortunate confusion.

Well, Lil’ Hummingbird tells me that she heard from the horse’s mouth that the Crown Prince never made those statements.

When the writer use lil' humming bird , it uses simili to represent the subject who made a confusing stament .It can label as fallacy of ambiguity because we can identiry who is "she" in the statement.

So it would seem that the reporters merely extracted from the distributed original text and did not report on what was actually said.

In this statemen the writer seems to make an assumption that the reporter merely extracted from the original text . However the word "seems" looks like the writer were making assumption on what was really happened.

MCA – please wake up to what the rakyat is demanding

Saturday, April 12, 2008
I have family members, relatives and good friends who are MCA members. I always despised politics, especially the Barisan Nasional politics, but I had reserved a soft spot in my heart for MCA, even volunteered to help out in the 1999 election. But whatever feelings I had for MCA has all but gone now.

I never thought much about politics, but I had been able to close an eye on it. I was annoyed by the ultra-radical rhetoric of UMNO youth, the keris waving etc, but I never quite believed in it. For me it was only a song and dance for some silly people to move up the rank in a crazy game called politics. I see that the politicians, the warlords and the Chinese tycoons and Ali Baba’s are so dependent on each other in minting their money and robbing the country that nobody really wants to rock the boat too much.

But the recent antics of some MCA leaders has got me fuming mad. I am referring to the PAS/Islam bashing announcements, calling DAP the traitor of the Chinese for going to bed with PAS etc. I don’t think many Chinese would take statements like these seriously, as everybody can see that the Chinese was never so well represented in the new government. But our Malay brothers and sisters are in a much more precarious situation. The welfare of the ordinary Malay – in fact any ordinary nobody regardless of race – was never really looked after by BN, and now all of a sudden they are faced with a new government with even less Malay representations.

I am not sure whether MCA is so dumb to not see this, or whether it is just a bunch of bankrupt politicians looking for cheap publicities. But statements like these that incite religious and racial tensions are downright irresponsible and dangerous in the current delicate situation. I consider these to be infinitely more sinister and dangerous than UMNO’s keris waving antics.

MCA – please wake up. The rakyat have spoken loud and clear in GE 12 that we don’t want race politics anymore. DAP and PAS, and indeed the whole Pakatan Rakyat has demonstrated their willingness to listen to the rakyat and made tremendous progress in finding a middle ground where all race and religions can cooperate and live in harmony. Please work with the rakyat to build a better tomorrow for all.

I see that the politicians, the warlords and the Chinese tycoons and Ali Baba’s are so dependent on each other in minting their money and robbing the country that nobody really wants to rock the boat too much.

As you can see in this statement writer is using simile by leveling the politicians as warlords. Are they any warlord in Malaysia of course not but the warlord characted can be describe as evil and mean and the writer try to relate it with politicians who are corrupt and robbing the country.

For me it was only a song and dance for some silly people to move up the rank in a crazy game called politics

In this statement the writer uses metaphor , He said it was only a song and dance for some silly people to move up the rank in a crazy
game called politics
, Is there any real song or dance that has been occured. The answer is no. The song and dance only describe the corrupt politic game so the writer us this metaphor to explain it more clearly.

The writed said these politicians are robbing the country however the writer did not give any premises to support the arguement. The Writer did explain to us how these parties neglect and not responsible for the races they were represented. However there are no premises that support these politician rob the country.

But the recent antics of some MCA leaders has got me fuming mad. I am referring to the PAS/Islam bashing announcements, calling DAP the traitor of the Chinese for going to bed with PAS etc

In this statement the writer uses simile by comparing going to bed equivalent to a corporation bewteen two sides.

Is the arguement has a good premises by shooting DAP as a traitor when they corporate with pas. This can be said as Ad hominem , The staement attack directly to a person or entity without good premises and supporting arguement. The argument should explain why by corporating with PAS DAP is betraying the Chinese community . No good premisess has been given so this statement can be said as Ad hominem fallacy.

Confrontation With my Senior

I remembered the first week after admitted to the new School in penang. Each of the new student will be assigned to group of senior to be bullied. If you lucky enough , they will ask you to polished their shoes. I was called by one the senior student and he said " Im going to kick your Xss .I asked him " why". He replied back " I dont like your face because you look so stupid".

From this conservation you can clearly see that my senior was using Ad hominem to attack me in person.i end up being beaten by 20 seniors on that horrible night.Life as a junior student very hard in school hostel , if you can survive school hostel you can survive almost everything i guess.
